Final Exam

Due to Covid-19 and the unique circumstances it presents I've decided to NOT have a final exam. Any attempt to do so would be take-home, which doesn't work for a course where everything is so easy to Google.

Instead, I'm replacing the final exam with a two-part assessment, based partially on your existing assignment marks and partially on an essay you will have to write.

Part 1 : Existing Assignment Marks (30%)

The assignments are the best way for me to judge your ability to actually work with this language and apply your skills. It didn't feel right to give you more assignments when we are so close to the end of the term. Instead I'll be using your existing marks as an additional assessment of your ability.

Your top 3 assignment marks will each count towards an additional 10% of your final grade for a total of 30%. Your worst of the 4 marks will be ignored.

Part 2 : Two-page personal essay (20%)

I frequently speak to the importance of understanding the context of your courses in the broader scope of your goals of becoming a professional developer. For that reason, I've decided to assign a short essay where you will explain to me what that means to you.

There is no reason to use the original final exam date, so I'm also extending the due date so you can incorporate it into your existing exam schedule. This gives you almost an entire month to write a two-page paper.

Topic

Explain the importance of having all computer scientists understand how websites are built and operate. Outline two different possible career paths for yourself in this industry and explain how this knowledge could benefit you in those careers.
